LET'S PAINT MURALS, MURAL ARTWORK BY THE CHILDREN OF MEXICO

At the Juan José Arreola Public Library and Papirolas

This exhibition is a  journey inside Mexico’s indigenous communities through the paintbrushes, colors and traditions of children from 17 communities. The exposition Let’s Paint Murals, Mural Artwork by the Children of Mexico, opened on March 15 at the Juan José Arreola State Public Library.

Made up of 12 pieces, it was inspired by the children’s conviction in their ideologies, despite the difficulties they face in their everyday lives.

The inspiration for one of the pieces painted by Wixaritari children from the community of San Andrés Cohamiata was the devotion to their sacred places, many of which are endangered.

Painting workshops were held on the first floor of the library as part of the initiative where visitors could express what living in a multi-cultural country means to them.

It was the first time that the exhibition was shown in Guadalajara and the second time in Mexico.

The exposition formed part of the activities for the 2014 Papirolas youth and children’s festival, which included weekend tours and painting workshops where participants, in addition to getting an insider’s view of the exposition, created murals that were put on display at the festival held from May 21 to 25 at the Expo Guadalajara.
